Method
- Choose your milk, whether you opt for whole milk for its creaminess or a non-dairy alternative like almond or oat milk for a vegan option, any choice will taste delicious.
- Heat your ingredients in a medium saucepan, combine the cocoa powder, sugar and salt. Add about 2 tablespoons of milk to create a soft paste. This step helps the cocoa mix more smoothly with the rest of the milk.
- Turn the heat to medium and slowly add the rest of the milk while continuously stirring with a whisk. Doing this gradually ensures there is no lumps.
- Continue to heat the mixture, stirring constantly, until it is hot but not boiling. Its important not to let it boil as that can alter the taste and texture of the hot chocolate.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. This adds a layer of flavour that compliments the richness of the cocoa.
- Serve and customise. Pour the hot chocolate into your favourite Fluffy To Go cup and let each person choose their toppings.
An extra tip and a favourite of mine is melting your favourite chocolate into the mixture, or dropping a couple of squares in your cup to scoop out at the end (if it hasn’t melted already) my mouth waters while writing this.
