Smoothies for kids are a creative way to introduce a variety of fruits, vegetables, and superfoods into a child's diet while disguising them as a treat. From vibrant berries to hidden veggies, smoothies have the power to transform mealtime battles easily.
Below we've pulled together 3 of our favourite smoothie recipes, directly from Subo. The Subo is a food bottle like no other. As your child sucks, the food moves up the subo, making independent eating easier.
Growing Green Smoothie
Difficulty: Easy | Serves: 1 -2 Subo bottles | Prep: 5 mins
Ingredients:
1 banana (fresh or frozen)
1 cup milk of choice
1 handful baby spinach, washed
1 handful chopped zucchini (raw)
1 tbsp ripe avocado
1 tsp LSA (ground linseed, sunflower and almond) OR
1 tsp nut/seed of choice
Optional: 1 serve greens powder suitable for kids
Notes:
For nut allergies: Swap LSA for chia seeds, hemp seeds or sunflower seeds
Banana can be swapped for 1/2 ripe mango.
Method:
Step 1: Add all ingredients to a blender. Blend until smooth.
Step 2: Pour into Subo bottle and serve.
Step 3: Store left over smoothie in fridge for 1 day or freeze for 1 month.
Berri-nice Smoothie
Difficulty: Easy | Serves: 1 Subo bottle | Prep: 5 mins
Ingredients:1/2 cup mixed berries(fresh or frozen)
1/2 ripe banana
1/2 cup coconut water
1/4 cup natural unsweetened yoghurt (regular, soy or coconut)
Method:
Step 1: Add all ingredients to a blender. Blend until smooth.
Step 2: Pour into Subo bottle and serve.
Step 3: For a cool drink on a warm day try frozen banana and/or berries.
Avo-choc Smoothie
Difficulty: Easy | Serves: 1 Subo bottle | Prep: 5 mins
Ingredients:
1 ripe banana
1/4 ripe avocado
1 tbsp cacao powder
1/4 cup unsweetened milk of choice
Method:
Step 1: Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth and creamy.
Step 2: Spoon into Subo Bottle and serve.
Step 3: Best served immediately, but can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the fridge for 1 day.
